Automated chlorine dioxide (ClO2) generation and dosing system for continuous Legionella control in complex water systems. ClO2 is effective at lower concentrations than chlorine and does not form chlorinated by-products. The Sabre system generates ClO2 on-site from precursor chemicals and doses to a target residual concentration at the point of generation. BS 8580-1 risk assessment identifies dosing as a valid supplementary control measure.
Care homes with complex water systems — multiple floors, large calorifier banks, infrequently used outlets — may find temperature control alone insufficient to control Legionella throughout the distribution system. Water treatment contractors and Legionella risk assessors specify ClO2 dosing as a supplementary measure where HSG 274 temperature targets cannot be consistently achieved throughout the network.
On-site ClO2 generation; dosing target 0.1–0.5 mg/l at point of use; WRAS-approved wetted materials; automatic dosing pump; residual monitoring point; BS 8580-1 compatible.
