HSE L8 requires that sentinel outlets are flushed and temperature-checked weekly in occupied premises. Many providers are unaware that dummy outlets and capped pipes must also be monitored.
Why this matters
Missing sentinel outlet records is one of the most frequent findings in L8 compliance audits. A simple weekly log eliminates most of your enforcement risk.
What to do
- 1Identify and map all sentinel outlets on your L8 schematic ensure dead-legs and capped pipes are included.
- 2Implement a weekly temperature-check routine with a signed paper or digital log.
- 3Review the log at least quarterly and action any results outside the acceptable temperature range (5060C hot, below 20C cold).
