All gas work in a care home must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer who also holds the specific ACS modules for the work being done.
Why this matters
A gas engineer registered for domestic boilers is not automatically qualified to work on commercial equipment or LPG systems. Using the wrong engineer can invalidate your gas safety certificate.
What to do
- 1Before any gas work, ask to see the engineer Gas Safe ID card and check the approved categories on the reverse.
- 2For care home boilers, look for: CCN1 (core commercial), CENWAT (central heating and hot water), or HTR1 (space heating).
- 3For commercial catering, look for CKR1 separately as a heating engineer may not hold this.
- 4Verify registration at gassaferegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.
