Why this matters
Visual inspection between EICRs is not a substitute for the formal test but it is the mechanism that catches early signs of deterioration before they become reportable. A documented visual inspection regime demonstrates active management of electrical risk.
What to do
- 1Implement a quarterly visual inspection schedule covering consumer units, distribution boards, socket outlets and light fittings.
- 2Log each inspection with date, inspector, areas covered and any defects noted.
- 3Action any defects identified in a visual inspection within 14 days and record the action taken.
