Every hoist, stairlift, passenger lift and bath hoist in a care home must undergo a thorough examination by a competent person under LOLER 1998, at least every 6 months.
Why this matters
An uninspected hoist or lift is an immediate safety risk and a CQC concern. Missing inspections have resulted in enforcement notices and prosecution.
What to do
- 1Schedule thorough examinations every 6 months for all hoists, stairlifts, patient lifts and ceiling track hoists.
- 2Use only a LEEA-qualified inspector or your equipment manufacturer service scheme.
- 3Retain all examination reports until the next examination.
- 4Act on any defects classified as dangerous immediately and do not use the equipment until remedied.
