A care home has more bathrooms, more kitchens, more laundry equipment and more plant per square metre than most other building types, and it runs continuously -- there is no period when the water system is switched off and nobody is around. A leak that would sit unnoticed over a quiet weekend in an office building is instead happening in an occupied space, with the potential to affect residents directly as well as the fabric of the building.
