The Electrical Installation Condition Report covers the emergency lighting installation as part of the fixed electrical installation -- checking the wiring, distribution boards, and connections. However, the EICR does not include functional testing of the emergency lighting system itself. These are covered by separate emergency lighting test certification to BS 5266.
A defect in the emergency lighting wiring identified on the EICR (e.g. a C2 code for deteriorated cabling in the emergency lighting circuit) must be remediated and certified separately. The emergency lighting service contractor and the EICR contractor may be different organisations -- both sets of records must be held together to demonstrate a complete picture of the installation's condition.
The most common gap is a current EICR with all codes cleared, but an out-of-date emergency lighting service certificate. CQC and fire authority inspectors check both. Keep a single compliance calendar that tracks both and flags renewal dates 60 days in advance.
